I channeled Justine Bateman this morning. In my first-ever podcast appearance, invited by my dear friend and fellow conscious collaborator Andreea Parc, I left my hang-ups behind and just got on with it.
There’s something about the Bateman family…
I gave Jason my heart back in the 80s when our eyes met across a television screen. Silver Spoons.
Justine, on the other hand, is a recent girl crush. Stepping away from the limelight to pursue a career as a movie producer, she’s recently come under fire by women for “letting herself go.” In response, she heard their criticism, differentiated their limiting beliefs from her own empowering beliefs, and continued to stand up for what she believes… With or without makeup. With or without scars. With or without cosmetic surgery. She saw herself as beautiful by her own standards.
We may have met Justine as Mallory, the ditzy sister to the brilliant Alex P Keaton, but Justine holds a degree in Computer Science, passionately tackles topics that can potentially change the world, and strongly advocates for women being deeper than what we see on the surface.
For a different perspective on ageing and the voice of women, this conversation between Justine and Mayim Bialik offers an interesting twist.
Why am I inspired by this conversation between two celebrities being real? When we look at the trajectory of modern-day marketing, it’s very much a daytime drama. The glamour, the glitz, the storytelling, the in-crowd, the it-crowd, and how to get into the right circles.
So back to the podcast and why I channeled Justine. The discussion between Justine and Mayim is very much about stepping out of spaces you don’t belong, creating your own circles, not depending on circles, and just being who you were created to be. And I didn’t give any weight to it being a bad hair day, not wearing makeup, or wondering too much about what I’d look like on camera.
I focused on the message.
Do you have 103 minutes to listen to Justine and Mayim’s take on the standards for beauty and potential loss of substance? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Great post and now to watch the video
