I feel that the sudden turn of events is somehow still reverberating through me on some level. I have come through many challenging times in the past few years and was just getting my life on track and enjoying some greater ease. Now this. Its an emotional rollercoaster and its important for me to return to and maintain my equilibrium.
My life changes today. Irrevocably. A regular visit to the ENT can never be a regular visit for someone who’s had nasopharyngeal cancer.
When dread disease strikes, it strikes everyone. Sometimes we’re the wind and sometimes we’re the wings.
Sometimes, the innocence of childhood is taken away. Curiosity is no longer an option.
It was hospital visiting hours on a Sunday afternoon, sometime in June 1993, when my then fiancé and eight-month old son woke me from my deep sleep. Scheduled for surgery the next morning, I took this rare opportunity as a young mother to rest.
Is it silent because we’re not speaking? Or is it silence because we’re not listening? Here in South Africa, we lost another beloved celebrity to cancer yesterday.
