In Amor Marquez Chibanda’s post, Letting Go To Overflow, she suggests that it is our attachment to “my” that blocks our own flow of abundance. I love how she defines abundance as a state of overflow where there is more than enough for everyone instead of an accumulation of material wealth.
Leading with a powerful Buddha quote, “To live a pure unselfish life, one must count nothing as one’s own in the midst of abundance.” Amor suggests that moving away from our attachments opens up the floodgates to a vastness of superabundance for everyone.
To some, this may sound like a contradiction: How can wanting nothing give us everything? From my perspective, it’s not so much about wanting nothing of our own and more about wanting everything for everyone. John Lennon says it best…
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world,
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one
I’ve included the song performed by my favourite group, Pentatonix. I recommend you watch to the end to get the full message.
As solo entrepreneurs, we have the power to initiate this change by changing the paradigms around business for self to abundance for all. What “my” are we attached to? How can we change it to “our”? How have we placed boundaries between “us” and “them?” If we’re not engaging in marketing for whatever reasons – and even if we are – what if we reimagine it not as self-gain, but as a catalyst for this paradigm shift where abundance flows for everyone?
