I often wonder how many disguises resistance shows up in. I feel I could open a costume hire shop with the amount of outfits my resistances have worn over the years, each with their unique look, feel and character!
So here I was, once again minding my own business, literally, when the latest one showed up disguised as the Great Wall of China. It felt internally as if someone had taken hold of my solar plexus and was squeezing it tight. Being on an 18-month spiritual directorship program means having resistance and a host of other limiting aspects show up to be set free. A given? YES. Easy? No.
Back to the Great Wall of China…
We are in the process of crafting our TED talk of the origin story of our service work and our assignment is to go public as a practice run. I have chosen to do a Facebook Live as an audience and a time limit of 15 minutes are the pre-requisites. It felt as if everything in me was pushing this away – mentally, emotionally and even physically. I was avoiding taking even the first tiny step. Instead, I sent an email to the course director and listed all the problems I saw with doing it and even offering an alternative solution. In her gentle and patient way she let me know the bigger picture of why I am doing this assignment. As soon as I realised that I had lost sight of my bigger vision for my service work as well as having met and released the subconscious fear attached, the Wall crumbled and fell away.
My AHA was that I wanted the perfect TED talk experience. If I cannot do it standing up with the lighting just right in front of a beautiful background and have all the tech working without a hitch, then why bother? My vision and I and my story are still a work in progress. I really do need to start somewhere, no matter how small or ridiculous that baby step may look and feel like.
The result? Inspired action. My talk preparation is complete, the FB Live is scheduled and now I am enjoying the process with loads of energy and realising I am having fun along the way. The joy truly is in the journey!
We can combine both our costumes and it would display along the Great wall of China. Yes having a higher vision helps like a North Star as we step forward in our resistance attires.
What a costume party that would be 🙂
“…and even offering an alternative solution” made me giggle. That list would make for an entertaining next post! I look forward to seeing you on the stage.
When I read the email and saw that I had given the solution, I also had a giggle and sent it anyway!
