When Curiosity Is Not An Option

Topic: My response, The magic of curiosity, When dread disease strikes
Archetype(s):

Experience of life:
When you’re faced with dread and you can’t see beyond it in that moment.

Sometimes, the innocence of childhood is taken away.

As I read Sibylle’s post, Why Curiosity Matters In Business, and the inspiring responses, I was instantly transported to children’s laughter, magical gardens, unicorns, fairies, hopes, and dreams. As adults, we definitely need to embody that playfulness, curiosity, and joy in all that we do, especially within business and our careers.

I was also reminded of how many children are dealt a different hand in life. Closest to my heart is hospital beds, needles, loneliness, and aloneness. Fear beyond what their little hearts can fathom.

It is within these hospital rooms where we see true courage, resilience, and hope, also characteristics we often tend to neglect when life takes us on a wild ride.

So perhaps the lesson is to welcome it all. And when playfulness isn’t an option because situations are dire and the fear feels too real, to remind ourselves that WE are the rubber balls. WE bounce back. And the harder life tosses us to the ground, the higher we can rise.

My Child Has Cancer Trust

My Child Has Cancer Trust (MCHCT) was started by a collection of mothers whose children had cancer. These mothers and families travelled the journey through their cancer experience together by supporting each other to face whatever unpredictable hurdles the dis-ease brought with it every day.

Sometimes life asks us to be braver than we ever thought possible.. But even on the hardest days, a quiet curiosity and childlike wonder can still remain with us as adults. This is such a powerful reflection. Thank you for sharing . As a parent, it stirs my heart to see this heart-tugging image and read these words. Sending virtual warm hugs and deep gratitude for your courage in sharing. I will carry that line with me during my own adversities: We are the rubber balls. We bounce back!

This is why organisations such as yours are so important!

I, too, have been in situations that created so much fear that curiosity was inaccessible. I have deep empathy for anyone – parent, adult, or child – who faces the dire circumstances of life-threatening illness. Where I am now, I can remain curiously at peace and hold space for those who cannot do it for themselves. Organisations such as yours support and hold space in the physical realm. I support all life in the non-physical realm. Each contribution matters. Thank you for the beautiful share and for letting me be a part of your world.
