The new year has begun.

How many of us are still clinging to old emotional baggage, and past traumas?

Here are some quotes that reflect on the power of letting go of the past, offering insight on how to better embrace our desired narrative on a fresh page, a new day, and a brand-new year—dissolving the old and stepping into the narrative of freedom.

“The past has no power over the present moment.”

– Eckhart Tolle

“You can only lose what you cling to.”

– Buddha

“Forget what hurt you but never forget what it taught you.”

– Shannon L. Alder

“Renew yourself, release, let go. Yesterday’s gone. There’s nothing you can do to bring it back.”

– Steve Maraboli

“In the process of letting go, you will lose many things from the past, but you will find yourself.”

– Deepak Chopra

“Ultimate freedom has nothing to do with your life circumstances—it is the freedom of allowing the self to dissolve into the waves of the ocean.”

– Richard Rudd

It’s not a surprise that the last quote really resonated with me

“Ultimate freedom has nothing to do with your life circumstances—it is the freedom of allowing the self to dissolve into the waves of the ocean.”– Richard Rudd
Looking forward to a year of flow and being at one with the ocean

Ah yes, thank you for sharing these quotes to remind us of the power of letting go. It reminds me of a story I once read (and I may have a few details wrong but the essence is significant): Some delicious fruits were placed inside a cage with narrowly spaced bars to tempt the local troupe of monkeys. The monkeys could easily slide their opened hands inside the cage, but once they grabbed a fruit the fist holding it tightly could no longer be withdrawn. The only way to be free again was to let go.
